Entry requirements
This qualification is designed for all those who wish to work as a dental nurse or trainee dental nurse and who wish to obtain a dental nursing qualification leading to GDC registration.
Who can apply?
Anyone aged 16 years or over no formal qualifications needed. You do not need Maths or English qualification.
How is it assessed?
The assessment consists of two components:
- A variety of set tasks with minimal writing involved
- Two externally set and externally marked, covering the underpinning knowledge across units – the assessments will be online
Learners must be successful in both components to gain the Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice of Dental Nursing.
How long will it take to complete this qualification?
Learners can usually complete this qualification in 12 to 15 months with extensions available at extra cost should this be needed.

Do you need to be working to take this qualification?
This qualification requires learners to complete a mandatory work/industry placement experience throughout the duration of the qualification, before certification.
It is recommended that a minimum of 16 hours per week is spent in the workplace.

Instead of 17 units with our previous qualification the new standards have 12 core units.
