CACHE Advanced Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing

As a dental nurse, your role is to provide chair-side support to both dental team and patients.

Gaining a qualification as a dental nurse can lead to progression in other career pathways such as dental therapists and hygienists, oral health promotion, the management of dental practices or other related healthcare roles within the dental sector.

The General Dental Council (GDC) regulates the role of dental nurses and allows individuals to register with them when they have successfully completed a recognised qualification, such as our L3 Diploma in Principles and Practice of Dental Nursing (QcF).

Theoretical knowledge is usually undertaken through day release study on a weekly basis.

If you’re already working in the dental industry taking a Level 3 Apprenticeship helps you develop further skills, allowing for progression within your career as a Dental Nurse.

During your Apprenticeship, you’ll be paid at least the current minimum wage rate for apprentices. On successful completion of your course and employment within the NHS as a qualified dental nurse your salary will start at around £16,000 a year, rising to around £22,000 as you gain more experience. Team leaders and dental nurse specialists can expect to earn up to £27,600 a year or more.

How Long Is An Apprenticeship Programme?

Timescales vary according to employers, the type of occupation or business you’re training for and the level of Apprenticeship, but a programme normally takes from one to four years to complete. This can vary according to your own skills, ability and motivation.

Who is Eligible for an Apprenticeship?

Cache Level 3 DiplomaIt is important to apply for your Apprenticeship while you’re at school leaver age. You will need to be 16 or over, living in England and not planning to continue in full-time education. To be accepted on one of our advanced Apprenticeships you’ll need at least one Level 2 qualification, such as a GCSE at level A*-C, a BTEC First Diploma or an intermediate Apprenticeship or some relevant work experience. However the Diploma in Principles and Practice of Dental Nursing has no requirements at all, which enables all types of people to apply.

Your placement will be decided after an interview when you’ll be given an appropriate role if you’re not already working in the dental industry. There you will be expected to work at least 30 hours a week depending on your employer.

About Our Dental Nursing Apprenticeship

Our Dental Nursing Advanced Apprenticeship lasts from 12-18 months with both classroom and online theory alongside practical modules that develop your understanding and competence in the workplace.

Your daily activities could include:

  • Sterilising instruments
  • Keeping patient records up to date
  • Maintaining surgery equipment

Other mandatory and optional units are studying the role and responsibilities of a dental nurse, supporting individuals in caring for their oral health, providing chair-side support during extractions and minor oral surgery and learning first aid essentials.

Once you have successfully completed your Apprenticeship you will have achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing.

For students without prior qualification will also need a Functional skills Levels 2 in Maths and English. This will be taught throughout the duration of the course. Additionally an award in Employment and Personal Learning Skills in Health (QCF) (EPLS) is also achieved.

FREE First Aid

This course is fully funded and all resources and FREE First Aid/CPR certificate will be given to all students on completion.
