Dental Nurse Apprenticeship

We are now offering the Dental Nurse apprenticeship from January 2021! Earn while you learn working in a general dental practice, community dental environment or hospital whilst gaining the skills and experience to become a fully qualified dental nurse.

Who is the apprenticeship for? Dental nurses work in a clinical environment that could be located in a NHS general dental practice, hospital, private dental practice, specialist dental practice, community dental service or military dental clinic. An apprentice will predominately work with a dentist, dental hygienist, dental therapist, clinical dental technician or orthodontic therapist within a surgery environment with patients attending throughout the day. The broad purpose of the occupation is to provide chair side support to all dental professionals and ensure high standards of cleanliness and infection control.

How long will it take? This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months (not including EPA period)

Do I have to pay anything for this course? You do not need to contribute anything for the course, and you will be paid a minimum of £124.50 per week while completing your apprenticeship.

What will I study? Apprentices will study the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing approved by the General Dental Council. Apprentices will study a variety of subjects to become a qualified dental nurse: Topics covered include working within regulatory requirements, preparing instruments and equipment, providing support in a variety of dentistry situations, principles and techniques of dental radiography and principles of managing disease.

You will be guided through your apprenticeship by a qualified and experienced coach who will carry out various assessments with you to check your knowledge and understanding; and fill in any gaps. On completion of this apprenticeship you will be a qualified and experienced dental nurse.

Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. Full support will be provided.
