Why choose Dental Nursing?

If you’re not sure where your career path is headed, why not consider dental nursing? You can work in a general practice, in hospitals or even within the armed forces!

Dentistry is the perfect industry for those with an interest in healthcare but are not keen on general nursing.

As a Dental Nurse, you will assist the dentist with patient care, from carrying out check-ups to full oral surgeries. You will be expected to take dictations from the Dentist and record information in each case. The equipment set up and sterilisation for each appointment is also carried out by the nurses. Along with this, reassuring patients is paramount to the role. With dental anxiety affecting almost half of the UK to some degree!

Away from the Dentist chair, you may be expected in general practices to help with reception duties, making appointments and answering queries. With every patient and case being different, your job will never be boring!

Are you right for the job?

Great traits to have:

  • Interested in the science of oral health
  • Highly organised
  • Great at communicating with people of all ages
  • Good team worker
  • Calm and reassuring manner

How to get started?

We offer an Advanced Apprenticeship for those 16 and over and the National Diploma in Dental Nursing for those 18+. You don’t have to start straight from school; a more mature attitude and broader life experience can be very useful. If you want, it can also lead on to other careers in the dental team or in wide healthcare.

The courses are designed by dentists, dental hygienists, orthodontic therapists and dental nurses, with over 25 years experience. All our courses lead to registration with the General Dental Council (GDC).
